DUCKS will be racing down the River Tavy later this month, in a Rotary event to raise money for charity.

The Tavistock, Yelverton and Roborough Rotary clubs have joined forces to organise a duck race in the Meadows in Tavistock, in aid of ShelterBox, Stroke Awareness and Rotary's Thanks for Life campaign, which helps to eradicate polio worldwide.

The ducks will be released en masse from Abbey Bridge and netted at the Plymouth Road bridge with prizes of £100, £50 and £25 for the first three winners and a frozen duck, donated by Tavistock butchers J S Downing, will be awarded to the sponsor of the fourth duck to cross the finishing line.

The race will take place on Saturday April 24, starting at 2pm in the Meadows.

Ducks can be sponsored at £1 each from Mayflower Galleries, West Street in Tavistock, or from Mirrors Stylists, Rock Complex in Yelverton.
