ON your marks, get set, go ... for this year's Tavy 13 half marathon, which will be under starter's orders at 10am at Tavistock College on Sunday, April 10.

Claire Pitcher, publicity co-ordinator for the event, said: 'The Tavy 13 will be bigger and better than last year as there will be additional activities going on during the race – such as 'have a go' at field events such as long jump, bouncy castle, face painting, sports clothing  sale, music from local bands.

It is very much a family occasion and will also include the culmination of the popular primary school challenge.

'The race is being held due to excellent feedback from last years event – runners seem to want to come back and do it all again!'

Last year there were around 600 participants but this year organisers Tavistock Athletic Club are hoping to increase that figure to 900.

Claire added: 'We are fundraising for the athletics track at Tavistock College – this is where the race will finish. All profits from the day will go towards the track fund. We will be using the same route as last year and there has already been lots of interest in the race already.

'We must give a big thank you to local property agents Mansbridge and Balment for sponsoring the event.'

Entry fee is £17 for affiliated runners and £19  for non affiliated runners. There will be a tee-shirt and medal for all finishers
