REFURBISHMENTS to Tavistock’s Brook Street Car Park have been postponed until a suitable tender has been found to conduct the work.

In September last year, it was announced that West Devon Borough Council would be working with Co-op, which manages the car park’s lift and stairs, to give the site a makeover.

The multi-storey car park, above the Co-op, has been a topic of concern for members of the public for many years as the top two floors are prone to flooding — flooding which happened recently following February’s spate of wet weather.

The news last year was that the car park’s makeover would include ‘a completely new surface and the refurbishment of the walls and stairs’.

Cllr Terry Pearce, West Devon Borough Council’s lead member for communities, said: ‘I am happy to confirm that we are still working with the Co-op on plans to refurbish Brook Street Car Park.

‘However, we have not yet commissioned the work to be done and are working with the Co-op on a revised tender.

‘I apologise that this is likely to cause roughly a three-month delay and can appreciate how frustrating this must have been with the flooding.

‘We will let you know when we have more information.’
