Tavistock 4

Penzance 0

Tavistock men?s first hockey team started brightly with some excellent moves from Way, Heard and Tom Honey.

The breakthrough came in the tenth minute after a skilful run from the energetic Way allowed Andrews to nip in and score with a clinical finish.

Tavistock?s second was almost identical with Andrews again applying the finish to a great Way run.

Penzance came back into the game in the latter part of the first half, but were kept at bay with strong defending by Cowen, Costello and Lethbridge.

Tavistock continued to apply the pressure and Heard created some great openings for himself, but after doing the hard work could not find the finish he deserved.

The second half was a battle of the midfields, with Holden, Barratt and Honey senior showing great spirit.

The game was becoming a more physical affair when it was made safe for Tavistock following a superb reverse stick shot from Boot-Handford.

Tavistock?s Tom Honey continued to show what a great asset to the team he is with some excellent individual skills on the left wing.

Tavistock?s final goal was scored by Way from a penalty flick awarded after his initial shot was illegally stopped on the line by the Penzance defence.

This week Tavistock play a crunch game against PGSOBs, 12.30pm, start.

l The previous week, Tavistock enjoyed an 8-1 victory over St Austell.

Goals came from Damien Heard (2), Kevin Lethbridge (2), Tom Honey, Matt Way, Nick Andrews and John Barratt.
