IN the Okehampton and District Table Tennis League division one Tavistock B were at home to League leaders Tavistock A. In the first game Fred Philips beat Stefano Ferrari in straight sets, losing for the first time this season. Stefano won his next two singles against Peter Hicks and Roger Bowkett. Tavistock A won the match 8-2 to keep them 10 points clear. In the next match Okehampton A were at home to their B side; Barry Vaughan was again on form winning all three singles. John Squire scored his first maximum of the season to help his side to a 7-3 win. Peter Richardson and Karen Stevenson won one singles each and Keith Smith and Karen Stevenson won the last doubles against John Squire and Frank Cockburn. Okehampton College A were at home to Bridestowe, who had a convincing 9-1 win. Richard Mounce saved the whitewash for the college by narrowly beating Phil Down in the fifth leg. Mark Fogerty and Francis Griffiths won three singles each for Bridestowe. In division two Okehampton C were at home to North Wyke. Maureen Venton did well to win two singles against Steve Granger and Bruce Freeman but North Wyke were too strong a team with Tom Misselbrook, who was playing his first league match of the season, scoring a fine maximum. He then partnered Steve Granger in the doubles to win in straight sets against Maureen Venton and Ann Creamer to give North Wyke a convincing 8-2 win. Moretonhampstead B were at home against Lewdown and in the first game between Peter Denman and Trevor Drew it went all the way in an exciting five legs — Trevor Drew winning 7-11, 11-8, 11-8, 12-14, 8-11. David Shilston beat Pam Hunwicke to make it 1-1 then Cath Smith won in straight sets to put Lewdown in the lead. David Shilston beat Trevor Drew in another exciting five legs by winning 11-7, 12-10, 8-11, 10-12, 14-12 to level again. In the next Peter Denman went to five legs against Cath Smith, Cath finally winning 6-11, 14-12, 12-10, 8-11, 12-14 to put Lewdwon 3-2 ahead. Pam Hunwicke made it 4-2, David Shilston beat Cath Smith in four legs for 4-3 with Lewdown winning the next three for a 7-3 win They now lead division two table with four wins out of four and 27 points, Moretonhampstead B are second with 18 points.
