THE weather was kind this year for the annual steam fair in Tavistock, which saw crowds of people descend on the Bedford and The Wharf car parks to view the steam engines and various activities on offer.

The event, organised by The Robey Trust, saw four engines on display, three owned by the trust and one visiting engine.

The event offered the usual steam rides around the town and this year, attendants were entertained by a band from Tavistock Youth Café.

Steam fair organiser Simon Williams said: ‘We think it went very well. The weather was lovely and the Tavistock Youth Café band was particularly well received. It was one of the more popular events so we will definitely expand on that in the future.

‘We had three of our engines out and one visiting engine. Unfortunately the “Puffing Devil”, which we were hoping would attend couldn’t make it. The event was considerably better than last year, which was almost completely rained off.’
