Tavistock RFC 57

Falmouth RFC 0

TAVISTOCK kept up the pressure on the leaders at the top of the Cornwall and Devon division with this comprehensive eight try demolition of lowly Falmouth at Sandy Park on Saturday.

Tavistock started well and in the first five minutes kept constant pressure on the Falmouth line.

Falmouth defence held firm and Tavistock had only a James Kiminski penalty to show for their efforts.

After further pressure Tavistock worked centre Matt Witcher over for a try, which was duly converted by Kaminski.

Good hands in the backs then provided Kaminski with two tries of his own, both of which he converted to take Tavistock to the break 24-0 in front.

With the advantage of the slope in the second half many people thought that it would become a cake walk for the home side but they did not allow for a stubborn defence, which made Tavistock work very hard for their points.

James Kaminski completed his hat-trick early in the half, but missed the conversion — the only kick he missed all afternoon.

Tavistock continued to apply the pressure driving the ball to tie in the defence and then releasing their strong running backs to good effect.

Among the forwards the front five were impressive with ball in hand and both props Matt Martin and Tim Child made some serious inroads into the Falmouth defence.

Matt Witcher got a second try and further scores came from fly half Henry Cunningham who wriggled over the line; flanker Duncan Law also touched down to finish off a pre-planned move from an attacking line out.

Tavistock pressed for a final score with number eight Jude Rotten prominent. The final score came appropriately from the backs when Kaminski and Witcher combined to put Ben Palmer over on the left.
