Truro 58

Tavistock 11

TAVISTOCK kicked off into a stiff breeze and made a promising start.

The visitors disrupted the Truro possession but after seven minutes Truro put up a cross -field kick, and a wicked bounce wrong footed the defence and the Truro winger was in at the corner. The try was converted.

Again Truro used the wind to pin Tavistock back in their 22, an attempted clearance was charged down and Truro romped in for a simple try. Tavistock moved the ball up into the Truro half, but the ball was turned over and the Truro winger escaped three tackles to score in the corner. The try was converted.

More pressure was piled on by the hosts and eventually Tavistock were forced to concede a penalty in front of the posts, which was duly converted. Tavistock then started to play their best rugby, exerting real pressure on the Truro line but unfortunately only managed to convert a penalty on the half time whistle.

Tavistock now with the wind at their back and a good kick ahead and chase produced quick ball, fed across the line for Andy Wright to score in the corner. The visitors came straight back from the kick off and more pressure resulted in a penalty in front of the posts, converted by James Kaminski.

The game was there for Tavistock to take, but they stood back and allowed Truro to take the game to them, and to make matters worse the tackling became non existent. Truro then proceeded to score six further tries, they only had to get possession and Tavistock parted to let them through.

The bar has been raised, Tavistock are still playing Devon and Cornwall league, but in the Western Counties league, this is just not good enough.
