TAVISTOCK Musical Theatre Society (TMTS) is coming back with a bang this year and is looking for someone to play the leading role of Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz this autumn.
Auditions are due to take place in May and the company is also looking for children, aged seven and upwards, to play the part of ‘munchkins’ plus anyone else who would like to join this friendly and long-established company in its new production.
The production team will comprise Julian Bennett, Rosemary Fox and Patti Stott, who were involved in TMTC’s NODA award-winning Pirates of Penzance in 2015.
Unfortunately last year’s show Me and My Girl had to be cancelled when the group had problems finding enough people to commit to the show. However this year, member Peter Clement is hoping that the choice of show will appeal to all ages and abilities.
‘This is a popular show and is suitable for all members of the community, young and old. We need a Dorothy but there are plenty of other opportunities for people to join in,’ he said.
The launch night will take place at Kingdon House on Wednesday, April 26 at 7.30pm. There will be music, games, a quiz and a photo booth so it promises to be a fun evening.
So come on all you potential Dorothys, dust off those red shoes and follow the yellow brick road to Kingdon House!
Anyone who would like to find out more about the show can contact TMTS chairperson Karen Batson on 01822 855030.
In addition TMTS will be holding another event at St Eustachius Church in Tavistock on Saturday, May 20 when it will be staging a ‘scratch Mikado’ workshop during the day in association with Tavistock Lions’ Club followed by a concert performance in the evening.
Dr Paul Foster will be musical director at the concert and Dr Sean Sweeney will accompany him on piano.
The leads will be taken by well-known soloists from the Plymouth and Tavistock area but if you would like to take part in the workshop and sing in the chorus with them contact Pete Clement on 07779 950007 or email peteclement101 @gmail.com
