TAVISTOCK Memory Café celebrated its 11th birthday on July 15 by holding a special birthday tea and entertainment for both existing members and past carers.

The event was attended by the Mayor of Tavistock, Cllr Phillip Sanders, and the Deputy Mayor of West Devon, Cllr Mike Davies, standing in for the Mayor of West Devon, Cllr Jeff Moody, who was delayed by another event but arrived later.

Cllr Sanders opened the event by expressing his admiration on the growth of the café over the last 11 years from six founder members to some sixty present members and becoming a charitable incorporated organisation.

He congratulated the chairperson June Wildman, who was a founding member, on the work she and all the volunteers do and have done for people living with dementia and their carers in the community of Tavistock and the surrounding areas.

He stated there is a great need in the area for such a service and that he knows the café is well known to fulfil that need. All those present enjoyed the birthday tea and many joined in the singing and dancing afterwards.

Tavistock Memory Café meets fortnightly at The Anchorage Centre between 2pm and 4pm on?Saturdays.

It provides tea, cakes and chatter in a friendly atmosphere for those living with dementia and their carers and also provides suitably planned and diverse activities for those living with dementia while the carers have heir own carers session.
