The Lions Club is delighted to announce that its ever-popular fireworks display will be going ahead on Saturday, November 7 at the Tavistock Community Football Club in Crowndale Road starting at 7pm prompt.

This spectacular display, let off to music, is staged by the locally-based award-winning Two Tigers firework company.

While it costs nearly £6,750 to provide the event, the Lions run it as a community service and not as a fundraiser. They do, though, hope to at least cover its costs, so members are keeping their fingers crossed for some fine dry weather!

Entry to the event is through the main entrance to Tavistock Football Club and from both ends of the Brook Lane to Crowndale cycle track, with free parking available courtesy of Tavistock College.

The club is deeply indebted to the directors of Fairway Furniture and TJ & LJ’s Fish and Chips for their continued financial support and encourage any other local businesses that would like to become involved in future to contact the club through its website. This will ensure the event can continue in future.

Full details of the display including the time and ticket prices can be found on the Lions website at www.tavistocklions.org.uk and on its Facebook page.

As in previous years, tickets can be purchased in advance from Ron’s Pets, Shields DIY, Tavistock Visitor Information Centre, Fairway Furniture’s Tavistock store and TJ & LJ’s Fish and Chips in Brook Street.

Advance tickets do give a saving on the gate price, however tickets can still be bought on the night with cash or card. As usual, the Lions will be running its popular BBQ in the lead up to the display so people are advised to come early to enjoy some well-cooked food and hot drinks.

The health and safety for everybody at the event is of paramount importance so there is always close cooperation with the Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Service which plans to be in attendance.

Glenn Arundel, the station commander for Tavistock Fire Station, says the letting off of fireworks by inexperienced people in their own back garden with young children about can be extremely dangerous, as in many instances it is impossible to maintain the correct safety distance.

We would always strongly recommend that people go to official displays such as the one organised by the Lions where you can see a spectacular display and where everything possible is done to ensure everybody’s safety.

The organisers ask that pet owners ensure that their animals are well looked after and in a safe place and that people coming to the display leave their own fireworks, including sparklers, at home to avoid any unfortunate accidents.

The club is extremely grateful to Tavistock Community Football Club for allowing the use of its facilities, John Collacott for providing the PA system and, of course, the directors of Fairway Furniture and TJ & LJ’s Fish and Chips for their continued and much valued financial support.
