THE 46,000 Lions clubs around the world have a change of officers at the end of June and Tavistock’s own club is no exception with Paul Blowey taking over as president from Richard Jones.

At a recent social gathering of club members and their partners, Paul, who is a teacher at Okehampton College, thanked Richard for his excellent year of service to the club and community and said that he was looking forward to leading the club for the next 12 months especially as in 2017, Lions Clubs International will be celebrating its centenary having been founded by Chicago businessman Melvin Jones in 1917.

He presented Richard with a framed painting showing Tavistock Parish Church and Jackie, Richard’s wife, with a bouquet if flowers as a token of appreciation from the club.

The other officers of the Club are Paul German, vice president; Chris Northey, secretary; Matt Hibbert, treasurer; Alan Wroath, activities chair; Jan Meakin, community services chair; Lyn Roberts, membership chair; Paul Congo, health and safety officer; John Noblet, social organiser; Tony Welsh, minute secretary and Steve Grummitt, press officer.
