A COMMUNITY information fair held in Tavistock on Saturday was deemed ‘absolutely brilliant’ by organisers, with more than 250 people attending.
West Devon Community and Voluntary Services (CVS) organised the event, with the support of Devon County and West Devon Borough Councillor Debo Sellis, on behalf of the new Tavistock Health and Well-Being Alliance, which is a multi-agency partnership for the purpose of improving communication and good practice in the interests of health and well-being of local people.
The fair was a chance for people to find out what activities and services are on offer in the area.
Cllr Sellis said: ‘It was absolutely brilliant. We had over 250 people through the door and you could see how positive people were being about it. A lot asked us if we could do it again.
‘There were so many diverse people, organisations and services there from across West Devon. It was incredible. As I said when I opened the event, we are not getting any more money from local government — funding is being cut everywhere, but the way Tavistock and West Devon will survive is by working with volunteers. It was great to see lots of people volunteering for the first time.’
Cllr Sellis expressed thanks to all the volunteers and statutory services that were in attendance as well as to Billie Burnett, Karen Nolan and the team from CVS and all who helped and attended.
