NEWTON Abbott Leisure Centre was the venue for the first Speedo League competition for Tavistock Swimming Club when it hosted the event and swam against stiff competition from Weymouth, Bodmin, Sid Vale, Carn Brea and Wells/Shepton Mallet. It was good to welcome back Pete Freedman, a former club captain, who comfortably took first place in the men?s open individual medley. Sam Campbell-Hingston had a good evening, winning both the boys? u11 butterfly (in a personal best time) and breaststroke. Sam Harmsworth won the boys? u13 freestyle in a personal best time and Ross Williams came first in the boys? u15 butterfly. Laura Radgick and Pete Freedman both swam well to gain first places in the open freestyle events. Swimming for Tavistock Swimming Club for the first time were Holly Brimble, Kris Chapman and Lily Edwards. The whole team was named ?Swimmer of the Gala? by the coaches who praised them for trying hard and pulling together, which was rewarded with a terrific third place overall.
