TAVISTOCK and District Chamber of Commerce (TDCC) is planning its third business expo this April.
Taking place on April 26 at Tavistock Town Hall, the show will see the return of the ‘business genie’, workshops and presentations throughout the day.
Last year the show saw 35 businesses and, with a little bit of creative design, the third show, managed by Certitude Promotions on behalf of Tavistock Chamber of Commerce, will see the addition of two more exhibition spaces!
The show is designed to celebrate businesses in and around the Tavistock area and actively supports the local business community.
The hope is, as always, that businesses of all sizes and from a variety of sectors will take advantage of the free advice and support on offer and of the exceptionally low exhibitor prices available.
There is always an eclectic mix of businesses at the TDCC monthly breakfast meetings and at the business shows; from hotels to beauty therapists, creative arts to financial advisors, lawyers to photographers, stationery suppliers to graphic designers. So, if you are in business you are welcome to exhibit!
Last year the networking breakfast, before the opening of the show at 9.30am, was attended by 50 businesses in total, and this year, TDCC is combining its monthly breakfast with the show breakfast at The Bedford Hotel from 8am.
The show itself aims to bring businesses together, not just from Tavistock but from the surrounding areas also, to encourage growth and collaboration for all and this year there are some brilliant additions to the show.
Philip Ruse, assistant principal and director of culture, creativity and enterprise at Tavistock College is hoping that some of the A-level business studies students can join the show throughout the day.
There will be the addition of the ‘relaxation station’ and presentations from key speakers from throughout Devon and Cornwall all bought together in one place.
Confirmed presen- tations and workshops so far this year are: Martin Miller, The Reluctant Salesman SW, Mike Turner of Tin Digital, Julian Summerhayes, lawyer, coach and speaker and Alan Stokes, clinical hypnotherapist.
There are many ways to get involved with the day. You can of course become an exhibitor and the price includes breakfast and lunch for one member of staff.
You can book a breakfast, you can attend lunch, invite friends, colleagues and clients to attend with you and of course you can spend the day wandering around the show, networking with other businesses, attending the presentations and workshops and collaborating with others.
For exhibitors, the doors open at 7am, there is a caffeine kick and a great breakfast at 8am and refuelling of your tanks at lunchtime with a buffet lunch!
Invite, share, collaborate and the show will open its doors to visitors at 9.30am.
The show will end at 4pm, concluding with a business selfie competition.

The featured presenter — Julian Summerhayes — is a lawyer, coach and speaker. As a lawyer Julian deals with a range of commercial matters; as coach, he helps businesses maximise their investment and improve employee engagement; and, in his role as speaker, he shares his experience of the changing face of work, the conscious business movement and radical self-enquiry to enable owners (and staff) to show up as their true self, and not live a shadow existence.
The featured speaker is Lynne Hackles, who appeared on Deal or No Deal and in the words of Noel Edmonds: ‘Lynne was entertaining, she was charismatic, she was colourful in every sense of the word. It was dramatic!
‘She played it perfectly. The banker tried mind games but she came out on top and the number one thing that I take from that game yesterday – she was courageous.
‘She and her husband, Colin, had had a terrible start to the year and she was determined to make the most of her time in the crazy chair.
‘It takes nerve, guys, Lynne showed that whoever comes out here with that extra bit of courage can be rewarded with huge money.’
