MORE accolades could be in the pipeline for Tavistock?s award-winning cheese shop, following a top flight judging visit this week. Country Cheeses, in the town?s pannier market precinct, is in the running for the Devon Life Food Awards Best Specialist Shop title, the winner of which is due to be announced at the Devon County Show on May 18. Shop proprietor Elise Jungheim said: ?I think the judging visit went okay ? I think the judges were quite impressed with the range of cheeses we have, and they commented on the smiley faces of our staff. ?We just have to keep our fingers crossed now.? Elise said the awards were based on customer nominations ? the top three in the county have made the final of the competition. She said: ?One customer did tell us they were nominating us for it, then I didn?t think anything more of it, but I am really thrilled to think that people have made the effort to put pen to paper and do this ? it makes it much more special.? And there is an extra reason to pay Country Cheeses a visit this week ? today (Thursday) is National Cheese on Toast Day and to celebrate, during the coming week the shop is donating ten per cent of its sales of two special cheeses, ideally suited for the snack, to St Luke?s Hospice. Elise said: ?We?ve chosen Rainbow, a rinded traditional cheddar with a really beautiful flavour, and Tower, another cheddar ? they will both be on offer at a special price to encourage people to try them for their cheese on toast.?
