CHILDREN in Need fundraising events took place in schools and workplaces across the Tavistock area and in Bedford Square where the Pudsey Day of Morris raised a staggering £1,030.
The event in the square was run by the Meavy-based Dartmoor Border Morris event with every penny going to the BBC Children in Need appeal.
The group invited 10 other Morris sides to dance with them throughout the day. They were the Plymouth Morris Men, Tinners Morris, The Plymouth Maids Clog dancers, Enigma Morris, Old Town Twelves, Grimspound Border Morris, Cogs and Wheels Ladies Morris, Catseye Morris, Wreckers Morris and Tavistock’s own side, Lodestone Border Morris.
Despite the freezing conditions, there was no rain but plenty of smiles and people asking some interesting questions about the world of Morris.
Over the coming weeks , Dartmoor Border Morris will be having open practice sessions in Meavy Parish Hall from 8pm so if anyone liked what they saw and wants to find out more, they can just go along.
Dartmoor Border Morris thanked Bob’s East End Cafe, Tavistock Town Council, The Tavy Club and Dartmoor Brewery, without whose ‘behind the scenes’ help, the event would not have been possible. The group is already planning its fifth event in 2018.Pictures by James Bird.
