THE hard work by Mount House pupils in the school's science garden during the early summer is now paying off as they gather in the produce and supply the ingredients for the meals produced in the kitchens.
Among the tasks undertaken was a thorough cleaning inside and out for the greenhouse.
They also covered the base of the greenhouse with six tonnes of aggregate, which has helped to maintain a higher average temperature.
A number of the planting beds have been replaced so that maintenance was reduced, and the children are now enjoying the fruits of their labours.
A wide variety of fruit and vegetables, including tomatoes, runner beans, leeks, spring onions, courgettes, carrots, raspberries and even chilli peppers are now bringing more home-produced flavours into the meals being served up in the dining hall.
