A RECORD breaker from Tavistock proved last Friday that two legs were indeed better than four during a ten-mile race. Adam Holland (pictured right), raced Tango, a 14.2 hands high pony, across moorland, bridleways and lanes to raise money for Brathay Trust, a charity that turns around the lives of vulnerable young people. The idea for the race was sparked by the discovery that both Adam, 27, and the pony, shared the same name — 'Tango', Adam's running name. Owner Kate Melville, who is also friends with Adam, rescued Tango, along with another horse, four years ago. The race began at Yelverton Rock and was completed by Adam in 1 hour and 52 minutes — followed eight minutes later by Tango. Guiness world record holder Adam said: 'I think I had an advantage on the hills — I'm a very good downhill runner but Tango had to walk down the hills. It was good fun. I know Kate enjoyed it too.' Godfrey Owen, CEO of Brathay, thanked Adam and Kate: 'It's amazing what people are willing to do in support of our work. 'Adam and Kate's idea has captured imaginations and headlines and we can't thank them enough. 'Of course, what makes the fundraiser even more special is the involvement of Tango — who has overcome a very rough start in life thanks to Kate, and is now taking on challenges that will help us to give young people in the UK a chance to change their lives.' Adam is the youngest person to run 100 marathons and also holds the word record for being the youngest and fastest person to run ten marathons in ten days. He now wants to beat his own record for running ten marathons later this year. Between Friday, May 9 and Sunday, May 18 he will again run ten marathons in ten days, around England's largest lake — Windermere. If he can run each marathon in under three hours he will set a new record. To support Adam with his fundraising, go to http://www.justgiving.com/tango10marathons">www.justgiving.com/tango10marathons
