Devon B seconds
Yelverton seconds v Shobrooke Park seconds
YELVERTON seconds continued their recent run of good from with a four wicket win over visitors Shobrooke Park seconds to move up to fifth.
Yelverton's skipper Jason Degg won the toss and asked Shobrooke to bat first; this immediately paid dividend when left-armer Matt Tamsett bowled Jones for a duck. Tamsett (7-4-4-2) also removed the next batsman, caught by Rich West in the covers.
At the other end Geraint Heath, despite bowling with good pace and bounce had little luck, as two chances went down behind the wicket. When Carter replaced Tamsett he induced the remaining opener to chip a catch to Chris Pearson at mid-off to leave Shobrooke on 13-3 off 15 overs. Taylor took a wicket in his second over safely caught be West at long-on. He then bowled Devon Over 60s player P Rose to leave Shobrooke on a parlous 24-5 and then Wheeler was well caught by a diving Gerry Keen at gully to make it 28-6.
Shobrooke Park skipper Mark Goodman dug in and with good support from M Searle the pair put on 27 for the seventh wicket, until, with the score on 55, Searle chipped a catch to Cottrell at short mid-on. D Manning went for 5 and J Bevan for 0, the former to Taylor (9-1-32-3) and the latter to Carter (12-2-32-4) to leave the visitors on 64-9. A last wicket partnership of 16 between Goodman and son James got the total up to 80, before the younger Goodman was run-out by a good throw from Patrick Hobbs.
Yelverton's innings commenced before tea, and despite losing Taylor for 5, caught behind, Yelverton comfortably made it through to the interval on 24-1 with West and Khan unbeaten. Tea was taken and this proved to be a catalyst for Shobrooke as skipper Mark Goodman took a hat-trick to reduce the Bohemians to 27-4, with Khan the first to go lbw, followed by Keen, caught a short leg and then Degg bowled. West followed for 18 with the score on 29, as he played on to J Bevan. When Cottrell fell with the score on 37-6, chipping Goodman to mid-off, Shobrooke may have sniffed victory, but Patrick Hobbs (16 no) and Matt Tamsett (25 no) with a partnership of 43 for the seventh wicket saw Bohemians home on 80-4. Mark Goodman took the bowling honours for Shobrooke with 4-14 off 8 overs.
This week Yelverton seconds travel to Exeter to take on Alphington seconds.
