A RECORD-breaking explorer and renowned public speaker will be swapping the polar ice for the school hall when she visits Chagford on November 27.

Ann Daniels, once described by Prince Charles as 'a wonderful example of determination and true British grit', will visit Chagford Primary School to give an illustrated talk on her adventures and expeditions.

Ann has taken part in five polar expeditions, and recently returned after leading an Arctic expedition as part of the Catlin Arctic Survey, studying the effect of climate change on our oceans.

Along with team-mate Caroline Hamilton, Ann was the first woman in history to reach both the North and South Poles as part of all-women teams. She has also been a baton holder for the Commonwealth Games and is a recipient of the prestigious Pride of Britain Award.

Ann's talk is suitable for all ages. Tickets are £3.50 in advance, £4.50 on the door (if space). Accompanied children are free. Tickets can be purchased from Sally's Newsagents or the school. For more details call Claire Ash-Wheeler on 01647 432273 or Neil Tappenden 01647 432309.
