NICK Sylvester, a sixth year pupil at Mount House School, has been selected for the Royal Yachting Association's South/South West Windsurfer Zone squad.
This follows his success in September when, as a member of the Roseland Wave Riders team, Nick came first in his class at the South Zone open competition at Weymouth.
The RYA Zone Squad supports the most talented junior British sailors and windsurfers between the ages of 11 and 16, offering a subsidised world-class national training programme.
Nick has been windsurfing with the Roseland Wave Riders since he took up the sport four years ago.
He was in the 2008 team that entered for the RYA 'Team 15' initiative, and won through the regional competition to qualify for the National Championships at Rutland Water.
The team was placed third at the nationals, which was a creditable performance against some older and very strong opposition.
Having won his way into the South/South West Zone squad, Nick's next target will be the Windsurfing World Championships being held this year at Weymouth from August 22-29, though he has entered primarily to gain experience in bigger events at a higher level, and to prepare him for still greater challenges in the future.
