A WOMAN from Townlake near Horsebridge is preparing for the trek of a lifetime when she will make her way along the legendary Inca trail. Julia Edwards, 41, will spend two weeks at high altitude and in challenging conditions on the path to Machu Picchu — all in aid of CHICKS (Country Holidays for Inner City Kids). After visiting the CHICKS moorland retreat at Brentor, Julie said: 'The retreat has such a wonderful feel to it, there were a surprising amount of hardworking staff scattered around and above all, it is evident that the 1,000 plus disadvantaged children that will be given a much needed break will indeed have a memorable and possibly life changing experience.' To raise funds for CHICKS and the trek, Julia intends to hold a raffle within the next two months as well as an auction offering services, meal vouchers and beauty treatments. She added: 'I am selling advertising space on a T-shirt, I would promise to wear the t-shirt every day for 3 months. I work in the pannier market so am constantly in the public eye'. Local musicians will get a chance to showcase their talent with a proposed acoustic evening for either September or October. CHICKS is a charity that offers disadvantaged children a chance to holiday in Devon and Cornwall. For more information contact Julia on 07709 394576 or email at [email protected]">[email protected]
