DESPITE the gloomy weather forecast, more than 120 archers from as far away as Bedfordshire took part in the first open shoot of the year earlier this month, hosted by Toad Hollow Archery Club in Gulworthy.

The archers shot a variety of bows, from hi-tech sighted compound bows to the traditional English longbow and primitive self-made bows.

Paul Harrison, a spokesman for the club, said: 'The course was laid out using two and three dimensional targets in local woodland, providing a challenging and enjoyable course despite hail, rain and wind.

'Medals were provided for the top archers in each class.'

Toad Hollow will be hosting another shoot over the August Bank Holiday.
