A RETIRED teacher from West Devon recently returned to the classroom ? teaching English to students in Kathmandu.
Sally Reid, 57, who lives at Buckland Monachorum, spent several weeks as an English tutor at a monastery in the Nepalese capital.
She described the experience as ?unforgettable?.
?It was wonderful from beginning to end. It was a beautiful place and the monks were very keen to learn English to help them with every day life.
?I really enjoyed being in contact with the different culture. There?s a lovely mix between the worldly and the spiritual.?
When she was not in the classroom, Sally enjoyed a six-day trek around the Annapurna foothills and a bike-ride through the Kathmandu valley.
Sally, who taught sociology in Plymouth before retiring last year, was partly inspired to embark on her foreign adventure by the gap years of her children.
She said: ?It had been in my mind to do it for some time, and I thought I?d better do it before my knees go!?
