A CAMEL has been bought in a developing country, thanks to the proceeds raised by Tavistock's new Indian takeaway The Royal Spice's first charity event last month.

Owner Tanvir Chowdhury is pictured above with Jacky Theobald of Tavistock's Oxfam team at the event on Tuesday, January 20, when 25% of the total take was donated to Oxfam.

As a result of the evening, The Royal Spice was able to buy a camel, through the 'Oxfam Unwrapped' scheme.

Sylvia Cole, one of the last customers that evening, said: 'It's amazing that by enjoying a nice meal at home, the people of Tavistock can give hope to a whole community in one of the world's least developed countries.

'I can imagine the excitement when The Royal Spice camel arrives in their village.'

Tanvir hopes to hold more benefit evenings in the future to help other international and local charities.
