OKEHAMPTON fundraisers are being invited to take 'one giant leap' in aid of vulnerable children. Okehampton Children's Centre is taking part in the Barnardo's Big Toddle, the sponsored walk for under fives. This year's theme is space. The centre is inviting local groups to join the fun during its own mass march around Simmons Park on Wednesday, June 18 from 10.40am and will be followed by a bring your own picnic and singing. Barnardo's project administrator Wendy Mills-Hicks said: 'Every year we are amazed by the children's enthusiasm and their commitment to join in and help others at the same time as having some fun. 'This year we thought we'd give little ones a chance to go to infinity and beyond and dress up as their favourite character associated with space. Every penny goes directly to the charity's work with under fives — so everyone can look forward to having a fun time as well as helping to raise money for vulnerable children.' The Barnardo's children's centres in Okehampton and Hatherleigh are managed by the charity on behalf of Devon County Council. They provide a wide range of free support and advice to local parents and carers of under-5s, including toddler groups, baby massage, breastfeeding support and play sessions.
