ROYAL Marines from 42 Commando, based at Bickleigh Barracks, Plymouth, will be holding a Commando Challenge in April to raise funds for Brentor-based children's charity CHICKS.

West Devon residents have the chance to compete against the marines on Sunday, April 26 at the barracks from 10.30am to 3pm to raise funds for CHICKS, Country Holidays for Inner City Kids.

The day, sponsored by South West law firm Foot Anstey, is open to teams of six to eight people who must be over 18 years old.

Each team will rotate through various challenges, from archery, laser shooting, fitness training, through to the famous climbing wall.

Marines from 42 Commando are currently serving in Afghanistan but the rear party will be supporting the event, aimed at people with all levels of fitness.

CHICKS is 42 Commando's chosen charity and they have already attended numerous events in support of the charity.

Penny Eyre at Foot Anstey said: 'Taking part in the event last year was a great challenging team event. We are delighted to sponsor the challenge again and look forward to welcoming some new competitors.'

Cost is £15 per person to enter, which includes a lunch and a Commando Challenge T-shirt. Each team member is also being asked to raise additional funds for CHICKS who organise free respite breaks in the West Country for underprivileged children.
