KNIGHTSTONE Tearooms in Yelverton is hosting an RAF Harrowbeer archive and memorabilia weekend this Saturday and Sunday from 10.30am to 5.30pm each day.
The event will show visitors and local residents what happened during the 1940s on a stretch of moorland close to Yelverton, how the village was split in half, buildings demolished and roads repositioned to make way for a second world war RAF fighter station.
On display will be a diorama of the airfield as it would have been in 1943 and copies of the station's and squadron operation record books from when Harrowbeer was officially opened to the day it closed.
At Knightstone there is a small museum containing artefacts, photographs and documents of the period.
There will also be exhibits by the South West Heritage Aviation Group and RAF Harrowbeer Harrowbeer Interest Group.
The interest group will be offering their popular guided walk around the former wartime airfield.
The walk will start at 2pm on Saturday from beside the tea rooms and will last about three hours. There is no charge, although a donation to the group's funds will be welcomed. The walk is available again on the Sunday afternoon at the same time.
Harrowbeer Interest Group member Stephen Fryer said: 'Interest in the former airfield is as great as ever and this is a good opportunity to find out about its history.'
Further walks are planned for the August Bank Holiday Weekend and full details on these walks and other Harrowbeer events can be found on the Harrowbeer website: http://www.rafharrowbeer.co.uk">www.rafharrowbeer.co.uk
On Sunday afternoon a book signing will take place by local author Pauline Hamilton-Leggett of her book, 'Schooldays on Dartmoor, Memories of Yelverton, Devon'.
There will be no admission charge and parking is plentiful. For more information call Michael Hayes on 01822 853679.
