CHILDREN and adults can enjoy a wonderful train trip around beautiful West Devon countryside this Christmas — and get to meet Santa on the way! Dartmoor Railway is once again running its popular Santa Specials on the weekends running up to Christmas — and have pegged the prices at the same level as last year. Stuart Farmer of Dartmoor Railway said: 'It's actually a really relaxing trip and it's a good way of seeing the country from the railway. 'You get the complete round trip, from Okehampton to Sampford Courtenay, to Meldon and back to Okehampton — it takes about one and-a-half hours, you get service to your table and you are in a luxury coach — it makes a really nice lunchtime or afternoon trip.' The Santa Specials train trips include juice and biscuits for the children and mince pies, tea, coffee and mulled wine for the adults — and of course the all important opportunity to meet Father Christmas. Children visiting Santa's grotto also receive a quality gift. Stuart said: 'The trips are really popular — we have already filled two coaches and the bookings are coming in thick and fast.' The trains run at 11.20am, 1.20pm and 3.20pm on Saturdays and Sundays up to and including Christmas Eve. Tickets cost £7.50 for adults and children, infants under the age of two are £3.50, which includes all refreshments. Booking is essential — for tickets, call 01837 55667.
