Over the last year, more than 100 local residents have taken the opportunity to meet new people through the Okehampton ?Walk and Talk? scheme.
Walkers have given a resounding thumbs up to the scheme, saying they have made new friends and noticed a huge increase in their feel good factor.
The benefits of increasing activity levels, however small, are now well known. However, finding the right place to do so is not always easy.
Trained walk leaders who understand how hard it can be to take the first step lead all walks. Walk and Talk leaders are often people that came along initially as a walker and then wished to help others benefit in the same way.
With the Government becoming increasingly concerned about couch potato lifestyles, Walk and Talk is expanding the range of walks to include weekend walks.
The weekend walks are ideal for those who work all week and would like to enjoy the feel good factor.
The first walk will be on October 3 at 2.00pm meeting outside West Devon Borough Council offices in Oaklands Drive, to share transport to Northlew. Further walks will be on every 1st Sunday in the month.
If you would like to join the free walks, turn up on the day or contact Helen, the walk co-ordinator, on 01884 244609.
