THERE were twelve promotions for South Coast Taekwon-Do at their last black belt grading. Not only was this the largest number of promotions for the Plymouth area, but the team also received several credit passes and awards at the Black Belt Presentation evening held in Bristol.

?A lot of candidates were disappointed six months ago at the last Black Belt grading,? said Chris Wood, chief instructor for Plymouth. However, instead of complaining about it they looked to the tenets of Taekwon-Do and showed great perseverance to pass with flying colours.

South Coast Taekwon-Do club has been running in Plymouth for more than ten years.

It has spread from the original venue at Tamarside to venues all over Plymouth, into Cornwall as far as Bodmin and out to Tavistock and Ivybridge. Many of the first students are now club instructors with their own schools.

The Plymouth club was a major player in the starting up of the Professional Unification of Martial Arts ? a nationwide organisation covering Taekwon-Do, Ju Jitsu, Tang So Doo and Kick Boxing.

PUMA is a traditional organisation taking its roots back to the founder of Taekwon-Do, Major General Choi Hong Hi, but is also very proactive in sports science and cutting edge technology such as FAST Defence.
