THERE were 60 entrants for Tavistock Athletic Club's first off road race staged on the Tamar Cycle Trails, courtesy of the Tamar Valley Area of Natural Beauty and the Treesurfers Cafe. The race was sponsored by Steeltech.

In good running conditions, first home was club member Adam Holland in 27 minutes 52 seconds for the 8.44k course, with Pete Waumsley a close second and David Braunton third and first veteran 40 plus.

For the ladies, Jo Meek, another club member, was first home in 32.05, followed by Jane Allison, first vet 35, and Sharon Daw first vet 45. Other prize winners were male vet 45 Jon Meek, vet 50 Michael Cork, vet 55 David Chanter, vet 60 Alan Littlejohns, vet 65 Peter Mander, and for the ladies vet 40 Heather Smyly, vet 55 Patsy Bennett and vet 60 Ann Venning.

With half the course along a railway track it was agreed that the course was capable of being tackled by any runner, and it is hoped that it will be staged again next year.

The club thanks the British Red Cross Society for providing First Aid cover.
