AT the Second Round Gala of the Cornwall and West Devon League at St Austell last week Tavistock Swimming Club came third with Devonport Royal taking first, St Austell second and Penzance in fourth place.
Mark Hennessey had two convincing wins, one in the Open 100m backstroke and the other in the Open 100m freestyle in a personal best time. Pete Welsh claimed Tavistock?s other individual win with a personal best swim in the Open 100m fly. In the Boys? Open 4 x 2m Medley Relay Mark Hennessey, swimming the first leg, gave Tavistock a good lead which Matthew Lake, Pete Welsh and Chris Ralph maintained to take first place. The Girls? Open 4 x 2m Medley Relay of Alison Kelly, Rachael Kelly, Rebecca Mills and Sophie McGowan came very close to a win but just lost on the touch. The Boys? 13/under 4 x 2m Medley Relay team of Jake Chinn, Marc Kerswill, Jake Broome and Philip Webb had an excellent race, battling it out for first place with St Austell and just missing out on first by a fraction of a second.
