TEENAGE swimming sensation Jan Langton from Yelverton is celebrating yet another clutch of medals, following successes at home and abroad.

Jan, a member of Tavistock Swimming Club, competed for the Cerebral Palsy England and Wales team at Hasselt in Belgium recently.

She won an incredible four gold medals in the 100m backstroke, 50m breastroke, 100m and 50m freestyle and also scooped two silver medals in the 50m butterfly and 100m breastroke, clocking up five personal best times in the process.

Last week Jan, who is 16, won a further two gold and one silver medal at the Disability Sport Short Course competition at Sheffield.

Jan?s mum Helen said: ?It was a big competition and she did absolutely brilliantly, she?s very pleased indeed. To get the gold in 50m butterfly she beat Nyree Lewis, who is a paralympian.

?But the most encouraging part is the fact she did six personal best times, which means she?s improving all the time. She made a huge improvement in her 200 individual medley by 24 seconds.?

Helen said Jan has now increased her training to five sessions a week, and now does regular gym work. Still sponsored by Meadowlands in Tavistock, she is now also being supported by the Devonshire club at Derriford.

And Jan?s amazing progress in the pool has now earned her another accolade ? she has been awarded an Outstanding Achievement Certificate by the Amateur Swimming Association.

The ASA awarded the certificate in recognition of her determination and commitment to swimming, despite the fact she suffers from Cerebral Palsy and Hemiplegia.
