South Zeal Utd 2

Axemouth 2

SOUTH Zeal had a poor record against Axemouth in recent seasons and were looking to capitalise on recent form.

The visitors were kicking with the slope in the first half and went ahead after 20 minutes slightly against the run of play. Axemouth won a corner on the right, the Zeal defence failed to pick up one of the centre backs who was left with a free header and the player beat Adam Cann from close range.

Zeal kept pushing for the equaliser in the first half but chances were narrowly missed.

Zeal, with the slope in their favour, pushed forward with more determination in the second half and were rewarded after 15 minutes when Alan Brimacombe latched onto a through-ball and finished well with a low shot to the left of the visiting keeper.

It now seemed Zeal would go on and win the game easily, but the visitors broke down the right, and with the Zeal defence stretched set up a chance which was taken well by the Axemouth striker.

The home side, kept battling and were rewarded with the equaliser 15 minutes from time following a good move down the left and an excellent cross from Dave Wooldridge. Roger White made up a lot of ground to send a great header beyond the visiting keeper.

Zeal put the opposing defence under pressure during the last ten minutes in an effort to get the winner but efforts from Brimacombe, Harley Cann and Garry Smith all narrowly missed the target.

This Saturday home to Westexe 2.30pm kick-off.
