A HAPPY couple are set to be recreating the quiet evening they spent on the evening of their wedding day, 60 years on.

Christopher and Brenda Day (pictured) are celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary today (Thursday) at their home in Tavistock.

The couple, Christopher originally from London and Brenda originally from Cornwall, met on a train on their way to a mutual friend's house party.

Mr Day said: 'The train was packed and she walked past me and gave me a sweet. Four years later we got married.'

Mr and Mrs Day tied the knot in London in 1953. Mr Day then went into the Army for 12 years, serving around the world. He came out of the Army in 1965 and the couple moved from their home in Crownhill to Plympton.

Two years later they moved to Yelverton and finally to Tavistock in 1972. They have now lived in the town for more than 40 years and Mr Day worked in the art department of the Spiral Staircase shop.

They have four children, Nigel, Christopher, Andrew and Gillian — the first of whom was born on their first wedding anniversary to the minute — and six grandchildren.

In celebration of their special day, Mr Day said they would be having a quiet evening, much like they did 60 years ago. They will on Sunday be having lunch and cake with friends in Abbey Chapel after the morning service.
