Tavistock 3

Kingsbridge 39

TAVISTOCK battled hard to contain league leaders Kingsbridge on Saturday — Kingsbridge have yet to lose a game in the league this season and look certain to be promoted back to the Devon and Cornwall League.

Tavistock opened the scoring, when fly half Josh Sutton converted a penalty in the opening minutes.

Kingsbridge were quick to reply, however, and their first try followed soon after.

The visitors kept the ball to hand, using the pack to draw in tacklers and popping it to back row players trying to break through Tavistock's defence.

Tavistock tackled well, but Kingsbridge enjoyed the majority of possession and were particularly dangerous on the break.

Tavistock had a couple of chances to score in the second half, but failed to convert them to points.

On more than one occasion there was a Tavistock overlap and the ball just had to be spun wide to give the winger a chance to run in a try.

Tavistock spent significant periods of the second half on the Kingsbridge line, but were unable to cross it.

There were impressive performances from Paul Greenhill, who returned to the game after a long absence, and Andrew Griffiths, whose powerful stature enabled him to impose himself on the opposition from the back of the scrum.

Second row Andy Hunt continued his good form with some powerful running and winger Barney Dunstan put in some devastating tackles.

Tavistock should look positively on their performance, which served as a useful building block for their match on Monday against Tamar Saracens in the quarter final of the Devon Junior Cup, under floodlights at Plymouth Albion's ground.
