YELVERTON and Princetown surgeries practice manager, June Chamberlain, was recently 'accosted' by two burly men . . . and escorted to a surprise retirement party.

June has given more than 18 years' service to the two communities, and since February there has been a 'conspiracy' in Princetown to buy her a retirement present and organise a party.

June's husband, David, also kept the secret and was waiting in the Prince of Wales pub with other village conspirators, much to her surprise.

Kevan Elliott, who organised the event together with his wife, said: 'June has been wonderful to the community. She is a really caring person and will be sadly missed.'

June said she will still be visiting Princetown for her 'fix' of Dartmoor air and to visit the Post Office.
