SHIRLEY Morse is not one to blow her own horn — unless it's for Callington Town Band. So the New Outlook social club decided to spring a surprise tribute on her at its weekly meeting at Callington Cricket Club recently.
Margaret Taylor, who set up the surprise, described baritone horne player Shirley as 'a remarkable person'.
'She has been chairman of Callington New Outlook for 17 years.
'She has always been enthusiastic and comes up with lots of different ideas regarding the weekly speakers and outings.
'The Callington Carnival is the latest test of her ingenuity and the group has had an entry every year so far. We have won the best adult walking group trophy twice now.
'Shirley also finds time to do painting in various mediums with excellent results at the Callington Autumn Show, where she has won a number of awards.'
Presenting Mrs Morse with a box of chocolates, Alan Woollcombe from Tesco said: 'Shirley is always chasing up local companies for donations for her various good causes, and it is a real pleasure to be able to donate something to her for a change.
'Every charity needs a Shirley Morse!'
