A BEACH clean up was carried out by the recently formed Tavistock Surf Club at Portwrinkle Beach, near Whitsands in Cornwall.

The team, which consists of 14 students in years seven to 12, removed a substantial amount of litter, especially plastic, from the tide line.

Being surfers the youngsters were very aware of the consequences of such plastic on the ocean environment, as they have seen first hand the devastating effect it can have on the sea and its wildlife.

After a hard but immensely rewarding morning the surf club felt it had achieved enough to treat itself with a fantastic surf in chest high conditions at the foot of Whitsand's magnificent cliffs.
