SEVENTY Okehampton Running Club members went out for their usual club run wearing a white ribbon to take part in an international campaign to end violence against women and girls.
November 25 was the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Girls, also known as White Ribbon Day.
The White Ribbon campaign is supported by many sports clubs and celebrities and it was celebrating its tenth anniversary this year.
Mostly men but also women wear a white ribbon to show that they will not condone violence against women and girls or stand by when they know it is happening.
Forty-five percent of UK women have experienced some form of domestic violence, sexual assault or stalking. Seven women a month are killed by a current or former partner in England and Wales.
The club felt that by wearing white ribbons on their run on the eve of November 25, they were showing their solidarity with this great cause and that violence and abuse against women has got to end. For more info on White Ribbon campaign go to www.whiteribbon campaign.co.uk
