A PROJECT which teaches West Devon school-children how to save lives and be good citizens has been given a cash boost by Waitrose.
The Community Matters scheme in the Okehampton store raised £520 towards the cost of staging the West Devon Junior Life Skills event which will take place at the Parklands Leisure Centre in Okehampton in September.
The event will help to prepare children in the last year of primary school for a more independent life when they move to secondary school the following year.
The cheque was presented by Sonia Kelly from Waitrose to West Devon Borough Council's Junior Life Skills Co-ordinator Adey Hutchins along with Year 5 children at Okehampton Primary School on Wednesday, July 10.
Adey Hutchins said: 'This donation will go a long way towards the cost of transporting the children between their schools and the leisure centre. I would like to thank Waitrose very much for their support and generosity, and to their customers who voted for Junior Life Skills in the Community Matters scheme'
West Devon Junior Life Skills will teach invaluable safety and citizenship skills to over 200 children from 13 primary schools in the Okehampton area on September 9 and 10.
The Tavistock area schools will attend Junior Life Skills sessions in Tavistock Town Hall on September 11, 12 and 13.
