KELLY College had 10 relay teams qualify for the English Schools Swimming Association (ESSA) National Relay Finals on Saturday at The Quays, Southampton.
Kelly got off to a good start with the junior girls (years 7,8 and 9) going into the final for the 4 x 50m freestyle relay with the fastest time (1.54.94). Leah Picillo, Georgia Jones, Chloe Barrow and Cara Layden did an even faster time in the final (1.54.66), but were just touched out into second place by Guildford High School. The Kelly girls were the top South West team ahead of local rivals Plymouth College and Millfield School. Leah Picillo, led off the relay set a new Kelly College age group record for 13 year old girls with a time of 28.62.
The Kelly junior girls in the medley team, went into the final with the second fastest time (2.10.72), but were placed third in the final again behind winners Guildford High School and Millais School of Horsham. The Kelly team of Millie Murdoch, Beth Watmore, Chloe Barrow and Leah Picillo were the top South West team with a time of 2.10.21.
Kelly junior boys team of Robbie Neilsen, Charlie Tod, Jack Pearson and Harry Wardle reached the final for both the medley and freestyle relays, placing sixth in the medley and seventh in the freestyle relay.
Kelly's intermediate girls (years 10 and 11) were 12th overall in the freestyle relay and in the medley relay final they ended up seventh. The team consisted of Erin Walsh, Victoria Callow, Sophie Hastings and Naomi Copperwait.
The senior boys team (12 and 13 years) of Charlie Bayliss, Matthew Courtis, Sam Lewis and Joe Voller reached the final of the freestyle relay coming in eighth in 1.42.38. The medley team of Oliver Willis, George Humphrey, Charlie Bayliss and Joe Voller were sixth. The girls senior team for Kelly were Chelsey Taylor, Katherine Larcombe, Lucy Sanderson and Ellen Riis White. were 10th in the medlay in 2.13.58 and the 12th in the freestyle in 1.59.43.
