Bridestowe v Buckland

THIS thrilling match entertained all at Bridestowe?s Millaton ground and saw the home side take over top spot in the league.

An important fixture for both sides, it started well for Buckland, who, winning the toss, invited Bridestowe to bat.

After losing two quick wickets, Phil Hatton (75) and Stevie Yates (28) started to build an innings that would top 200 runs.

Father and son Steve and Gary Sizmur batted well, along with Phil Down, who added 56 runs late in the innings to leave Buckland needing 209 runs to win.

Paul Tomkies (3 for 49) and Kevin Osborne (3 for 55) bowled well for Buckland.

After tea, Buckland made a steady start, but after first losing Gary Osborne, bowled for 9, then Tom Rogers, to a superb diving catch by Neil Griffiths for 13, it was left to Geoff Pollard and Paul Tomkies to start the run chase in earnest.

Their partnership produced 60 runs in short order and the game was evenly poised with Buckland at 100 for 3 with 8 overs left.

Another fine catch, this time by Steve Yates, ended Pollard?s innings of 33 and Tomkies went soon after for 27. P Barratt batted well for his 35, but Bridestowe bowled and fielded well to win the match in the 36th over. Buckland all out for 179.

Griffiths was the pick of Bridestowe?s bowlers with 3 for 48.
