DESPITE the fact that a number of first-choice players were away at the National Prep Schools Athletics Championships in Birmingham, the Mount House under 13 rounders team completed a successful season with a good victory over Plymouth College. When Mount House lost the toss and were put in to bat first, Emily Redman and Poppy Hartley gave them a good start, scoring off each ball they received. Running was excellent as they took advantage of weaknesses in the Plymouth fielding, and several rounders resulted from fumbles and misfields. Emily Redman then took up the ball, despite having had no practice this season, and three wickets fell quickly thanks to Emily's catching hands, Phoebe Malcolm's smart fielding and Fern Toynton's fast reactions both catching and stumping at fourth post. Flora Zajicek backed up very well and made a great stumping at second. Georgina Newman was Mount House top-scorer in the second innings with one and a half rounders, followed by Fern and Phoebe with one full rounder each. In their second innings Plymouth College were unable to make any impression on the deficit, the highlight being a superb catch by Poppy Hartley running in from a deep fielding position. The result was a resounding victory for Mount House by 14 and a half to 9, and the end of a season that saw the team unbeaten in regular fixtures.
