SIX young golfers from the Tavistock Club took part in a marathon to play from sunrise to sunset, to raise money for St Luke's Hospice and the Muscular Dystrophy Support Group.

Will Northey, Chris Gorman, Rob Beveridge, Keith Stenhouse, Roy Friend, Will Stenhouse, Sam Jessop and Mike Henderson. started at 5am, ending just after 8pm following 72 holes and 22 miles.

Apart from the enduring time and distance, the golfers had the ever reliable weather to contend with. Starting in dense fog, the weather progressed from heavy rain to strong wind and warm sunshine, ending in semi-darkness.

After four changes of clothes and lots of blister tape, the golfers raised, £1,500 towards the charities.

There were only three points between the two teams of three, with Team A winning the day. Club captain Roy Friend said 'I am just so proud of the boys involved, they are a credit to the club.'
