Devon Senior Cup

South Zeal Utd 7

Sidbury 3

ZEAL recorded their first win of the season on Saturday when they easily defeated Sidbury in the first round of the cup.

It took Zeal just 15 minutes to take the lead when Reg Wonnacott placed a great free kick in the path of Lee Gilbert who had the simple task of finishing from close range.

It was all Zeal but missed chances kept the visitors in the game and Sidbury equalised after 20 minutes play when a Zeal attack broke down and a quick through ball put one of Sidbury's strikers clear.

Zeal put more pressure on the Sidbury defence and went 2-1 up when Harley Cann broke down the left and played in a perfect ball for Tom Reilly to finish well from six yards,

Reilly put Zeal 3-1 up with another cool finish and Zeal went in 4-1 up at half-time when good passing put Roger White clear down the right and his pinpoint cross was coolly put away by Harley Cann.

Zeal lost their concentration at the start of the second half and allowed Sidbury to pull a goal back, but the fightback was short-lived.

Arun Ditchburn was put through on goal and he restored Zeal's three-goal advantage with a tremendous strike into the roof of the visitors' net. Zeal's sixth goal was a well-taken effort from Garry Smith and Alan Vile made it seven ten minutes from time.

Sidbury got a goal back almost on the final whistle but ended up well-beaten.

This week Oakwood away, kick-off 3pm.
