Upottery 0
South Zeal Utd 1
WITH both teams having a good start to the season this was always going to be a test for Zeal, who came through in the end by claiming all three points in a less than inspiring encounter.
Both defenses seemed to have the upper hand and in a tight first half that, Zeal just about edged, and chances were few and far between although the best of them fell to the away side who might have been two or three up at half time had the Upottery keeper not denied Darren Gilbert twice with two very good close range saves.
However with five minutes of the first period remaining Zeal broke down the right and Phil Evans converted from six yards his first shot rebounding from the keeper which he then converted with his knee to score what proved to be the winning goal.
In the second half Upottery tried everything to get back into the game. but a great defensive display by Zeal ensured all three points.
The following week Zeal progressed to the quarter final of the Bill Slee cup when they defeated Clyst Valley 3-0 with goals from Jamie Atherton, Ben Davey and Phil Evans.
Next week Exmouth Amateurs away, kick off 3pm.
