PRAYING for Rain may not be a popular activity for most people during the August holiday period — but for anyone attending this year's one day music festival at Grimstone Manor, Horrabridge, the phrase has a more welcome connotation.
On Saturday, August 11, this popular five-piece band will be entertaining the crowds with their unique brand of infectious world dance music played on a variety of interesting and unusual instruments from around the world.
Drawing their inspiration from their travels throughout India, the Middle East, North Africa and Europe, their music reflects a multicultural mix blended with the urban influences of their London home.
This will be the group's second appearance at Grimstone Festival following their well received debut last year.
The visit also coincides with their sixth CD 'Harmony of Mind and Nature'.
They will be joined by local duo Nigel Shaw and Carolyn Hillyer whose musical style is also based on a diverse range of ethnic sources woven together into a rich tapestry of haunting vocals with powerful tribal dance rhythms.
Also on the bill are popular 'indie folk' band Hannah and the Madding Crowd, African rhythm based Bushmango and, from Totnes, Signs of Life who play an eclectic mix of music from the streets and cafes of Europe — everything from Romanian Gypsy music to French lullabies.
As well as music throughout the day there will be performance workshops, craft stalls and other entertainment as well as a selection of delicious home cooked food, drink and locally brewed beer on sale.
Gates open at noon. Admission £12.50 on the day, £10 if booked in advance.
Children under 10 free, 10 to 16 half price. Details from Music Festival, Grimstone Manor, Yelverton, tel:01822 854358 or 855914.
